Skagit County is under a flood watch Thursday afternoon through late Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.
The Seattle office of the Weather Service is forecasting rain from Thursday through late Friday night, and a freezing level of 8,000 feet. Most of the precipitation will fall as rain rather than snow, creating the possibility of flooding in 11 counties in Western Washington.
Flooding is possible in watersheds in the Olympics and the North Cascades, with the greatest threat for flooding in the North Cascades, the Weather Service said.
The latest forecast for the Skagit River, issued at 9:41 a.m. today, shows the river reaching 19.9 feet in Mount Vernon at 11 a.m. Saturday — well below flood stage at 28 feet.
The forecast for Concrete is for a river height of 21.5 feet and rising at 11 a.m. Saturday. Flood stage in Concrete is also 28 feet.
River height forecasts can change dramatically as the predicted crest approaches. The Weather Service advises residents to continue to monitor forecasts for updates.
