ANACORTES — Jerry L. Mansfield, a former Anacortes mayor and former Skagit County commissioner, died June 8. He was 93.
Mansfield of Anacortes served as mayor from 1974 to 1976. He also served on the city’s Planning Commission and the City Council. In 1976, Mansfield, a merchant mariner, was elected county commissioner and served until 1984, according to his obituary.
He was born in Seattle and moved to Anacortes in 1924. He was the widower of Mildred Becker and a veteran of World War II.
In 1944, the couple and their two children moved to Anacortes for five years then relocated to Bellingham. The family returned to Anacortes in 1953, when he took over Anacortes Stevedoring Co.
