Blues and soul vocal legend Terry Evans returns to the Rockfish for a show at 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $8.

Mississippi-born Evans sang tenor, baritone and bass in a church choir as a young man, but secretly listened to Elmore James, Little Walter and Albert King. At 22, he moved to Los Angeles, where he sang in South Central clubs such as the Cotton Club and the Road Runner. There he hooked up with singing partner Bobby King. In 1976, the two joined Ry Cooder. Over the years they have worked on several of Cooder’s albums.

Evans has released several solo recordings and backed some of the top people in the music business, including Boz Skaggs, Maria Muldaur, John Lee Hooker and John Fogerty, with whom he received a gold record for “Eye of the Zombie.”

Anacortes blues singer Mia Vermillion performs with Orville Johnson and John Miller 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Star Bar Lounge. Vermillion’s genre-blending blues and early jazz is complemented by Johnson’s legendary slide guitar and Miller’s premier acoustic guitar work.
