It’s official.

Conservative radio and television personality Glenn Beck will be in Mount Vernon Sept. 26 to receive a key to the city from Mayor Bud Norris. The mayor also will proclaim that day “Glenn Beck Day” in Mount Vernon.

Beck rose in prominence after getting his start in radio in Mount Vernon. Now, his radio program is on almost 400 stations, and “The Glenn Beck Program” on Fox News is the third most-watched news show on cable, according to a city press release issued Tuesday.

Advertisers pulled out of his TV show after Beck called President Barack Obama a racist on television in July. Since then, the ratings of his television program have increased substantially.

Beck will be honored at McIntyre Hall with a social starting at 6:30 p.m. followed by a presentation at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and go on sale Thursday.

More details will follow.
