ANACORTES — A fire that started in a crawl space under a Fidalgo Avenue home caused about $65,000 in damage Tuesday and displaced the family.
Firefighters were called just before 2 p.m. after the residents returned home to see smoke coming from beneath the house, said Anacortes Fire Chief Richard Curtis.
Fourteen Anacortes firefighters responded with mutual aid from Districts 2, 11 and 13.
The fire started in a crawl space under the house and spread to different sections of the house, including inside walls, Curtis said.
The fire was under control after about 45 minutes. Firefighters cut several holes in walls and floors to get at the fire. Curtis said the cause was likely electrical.
Estimated damage is about $45,000 to the 1930s-era structure and about $20,000 in contents.
The Red Cross is helping the family displaced by the fire.
