ARLINGTON (AP) — The IRS and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office say a longtime employee of the city of Arlington embezzled funds for several years before she retired in May.
Terry L. Davis spent much of her 32-year career as the city’s assistant financial director. According to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle this week, she took the money to pay for mortgages and improvements on two homes in Arlington. Federal authorities are seeking to have those properties forfeited to the government.
Davis has not been charged, and the court documents don’t specify how much she allegedly took — except to say that she wrote herself 103 checks beginning in 2002, and that she took $187,000 last year alone.
Davis did not return a phone message seeking comment. Investigators say she confessed when they questioned her early this month.
