Eager to join a kazoo-along but don’t have an instrument?

Don’t worry, the Two Man Gentlemen Band, a unique vaudevillian-style musical comedy act, distributes free kazoos to everyone in their audiences. They bring their energetic show to Anacortes 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at Star Bar.

With impeccably tailored outfits, rowdy sing-alongs, furious banjo strumming and a set filled with quirky, sometimes-naughty original tunes, the New York City duo — former Central Park street performers — promise that they’ve found the formula for a good, old-fashioned musical spectacle.

The pair combine hot jazz, old-time country, tin pan alley and swing to create a joyous two-man sound of their own. Performing with plectrum banjo, string bass, kazoos, and foot percussion, the gentlemen concoct a lively, danceable and insanely fun ruckus.

Their eclectic songs include odes to William Howard Taft, true love, the skills of a female kazooist and heavy petting. Shining with good-natured wit, they never utter a vulgar word. Banjo player Andy Bean emcees, scarcely allowing a breath as he cajoles the audience to participate, quizzes them with trivia questions and offers constructive critiques of the their kazoo-along performance. Bassist Fuller Condon is the silent straight-man, stoically tolerating his partner with the mild disdain of an older sibling.

“One of the most entertaining shows I’ve ever seen and most certainly the funniest. I was in stitches all night long,” said reviewer Matt Morelock, of WDVX-FM, in Knoxville, Tenn.

“I played their new CD ‘Heavy Petting’ while cleaning the house last weekend, and it was spotless in record time,” enthused Whitney Matheson on USA Today’s Pop Candy blog.
