A Lake Stevens man arrested for allegedly carjacking a woman’s SUV in Everett Thursday afternoon has been charged.

Snohomish County jail has the 28-year-old man in custody on charges of eluding police officers, third-degree assault, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and driving without a license.

State Trooper Keith Leary said the man forced the owner of a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick to drive her vehicle north on I-5, where it crashed just north of Anderson Road. The Sidekick’s owner suffered minor injuries in the collision.

After the crash, Leary said the man ran from the accident to a nearby gas station, where he stole a Mount Vernon man’s 1989 Chevrolet Astro van.

Reports show that the man then headed south on I-5 in the van, dipping back into Snohomish County before turning east toward Highway 9.

Leary said the chase ended on a dirt road at a tree farm, where Snohomish Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and a State Patrol helicopter tracked down the man on foot after he left the van in a ditch.
