BURLINGTON — The City Council is scheduled to consider three land-use proposals, new standards for legal defense and the capital improvement plan at tonight’s meeting.
The land-use proposals are to allow a religious institution on a Bouslog Road property zoned heavy commercial; to rezone a single family lot on Oak Street for duplexes; and to grant a permit for a home-based coffee roaster on Peterson Road.
City Attorney Scott Thomas said a recent state law requires the city to adopt standards for the legal counsel provided to criminal defendants. The standards under consideration set requirements for the compensation, training and qualifications of attorneys providing public defense.
City staff also have asked the council to adopt the 2009-14 Capital Improvement Plan, with the exception of the transportation section. The Planning Commission has recommended that the transportation portion be revised to put a greater emphasis on improving residential streets.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 833 S. Spruce St.
