Classes for kids in digital photography, cartooning, guitar, yoga, drawing, fairy tale theater, clay faces and more will be offered during the winter session of Anacortes School District’s After School Arts Program. This will be the last session of ASAP classes offered this school year.

Registration forms and payment must be received in the district office, 2200 M Ave., by Jan. 11. Classes run six weeks and start the week of Jan. 19.

Reduced class fees are available for families in the free and reduced lunch program. Some scholarships are available as well.

Fidalgo Elementary School classes run 2:50 to 4:20 p.m.; classes at all other schools meet 3:35 to 5 p.m.

Fidalgo Elementary:

• Hot Shots Digital Photo with Tony Locke for grades 4-6, Mondays, $45. Use your own digital camera with at least a 500 MB memory card and USB card reader. Learn tips, bring in shots and take them to the next level.

• Penguins, Polar Bears & Ice, Oh My! Art Start with Michele Romag for grades K-2, Thursdays, $45. Explore a winter theme in stories, drawings and paintings, with new art materials and new skills.

Mount Erie Elementary:

• Movie Making with Randy Walker, grades 4-6, Wednesdays, $45. Beginning and returning movie makers are welcome to bring new ideas for characters and plot. Students write, direct and star in a new movie.

Whitney Early Childhood Education Center:

• Penguins, Polar Bears & Ice, Oh My!, Art Start with Keegan Janicula for grades K-2, Tuesdays, $45.

• Hot Shots Digital Photo with Holly Chadwick, grades 4-6, Wednesdays, $45.

• Winter Baskets with Jane Hyde, grades 3-6, Wednesdays, $55. Projects for beginners and experienced students include a mitten wall basket, a heart basket and a spring theme basket. Continuous and start-stop weaving will both be used.

• Make it Real with Mike Stark, grades 3-6, Thursdays, $60. Put together stippling, shading, perspective and texture to make realistic drawings. Learn pen and ink techniques while drawing animals. Class runs eight weeks, Jan. 21 to March 11.

• Penguins, Polar Bears & Ice, Oh My!, Art Start with Sam Guzik for grades K-2, Mondays, $45.

• Fairy Tale Theater with Connie Bauer, grades 1-4, Mondays, $45. Step into fun roles and encourage your imagination to fly as you act out fairy tales such as “The Little Mermaid” and “Wizard of Oz.” Learn acting skills through puppetry, improvisation and theater games in a nurturing class that encourages self-confidence and fellowship.

• Beginning Guitar with Kyle Miller, grades 4-6, Mondays, $45. Bring your own guitar and learn to play the guitar in just six weeks. Music provided. Beginners and returning guitarists welcome.

• New Yoga Moves with Paige Lisser, grades 3-6, Tuesdays, $45. Certified yoga teacher leads students through traditional poses “Salute to the Sun,” “Striking Cobra” and much more.

Island View classes meet at Anacortes Middle School:

• Clay Faces with Patty Detzer, grades 3-6, Mondays, $55. Cast a face in clay tiles and build it with extrusions of hair, textures and colorful glazes. Try dramatic tile styles from Portugal.

• Woodcarving with Caroline Spehar, grades 4-6, Wednesdays, $55. Use professional tools and woodcarving techniques to carve red cedar plaques, then decorate with Native designs or your own design.

• Jewelry Making with Enid Oates, grades 3-6, Thursdays, $55. Make bracelets out of safety pins, a pendant out of a bottle cap and pendants out of colorful aluminum, and add seed beads, stones, wire and leather and make original art to wear or give as gifts.

• Basic Cartooning with Mike Matson for grades 3-6, Fridays, $45. Invent cartoon characters and learn professional secrets. Use computers to put characters in a real backdrop.
