Thanks to track supporters
On behalf of the Skagit County and the Burlington parks and recreation departments, I would like to thank everyone who supported the 2008 All Comers Track Meets this summer.
A big thank you goes to Burlington Rotary Club, B-E Kiwanis, and the Kiwanis of Burlington for their many volunteer hours and monetary donations, which paid for equipment costs, record-keepers booklets and the award ribbons handed out to all participants at Burlington-Edison High School Kirkby Field.
The All Comers Track Meets were started in 2002 and have become a community event where county/city agencies, service clubs, students and the B-ESD all work together to provide a high-quality family fun event for all ages. To all those parents, friends and extended family members who are out there each Wednesday night supporting their loved ones in such a healthy positive way — you’re AWESOME!
Kathi Williams and the Burlington Parks Foundation, we are grateful for your time and energy. We’re looking forward to providing another six great weeks of track-and-field festivities next June. It couldn’t be done without all of you. Thank you!

Thanks to food bank contributors
Sea Mar’s Food Bank staff, volunteers and I want to thank Haggen Food of Mount Vernon for its support.
On July 19, Haggen held a “1950s Days.” The staff and volunteers dressed up in 1950s clothing and had some old-fashioned fun — dunk tank, hot dog stand, cotton candy and other activities. Proceeds went to the Sea Mar Food Bank in Mount Vernon.

Kudos to arts festival contributors
The 47th annual Anacortes Arts Festival was a great success. The Festival staff Board of Directors and I would like to thank the 200-plus volunteers who worked in excess of 1,400 hours leading up to and during the festival, local sponsors who contributed nearly 25 percent of the festival budget, youth area partners who provided activities to serve thousands of children, and local artisans who enriched and entertained visitors.
We also want to acknowledge the city of Anacortes, the Port of Anacortes and the downtown business community, which shared space and helped us serve the estimated 90,000 festival visitors. All of these partners (along with the community) help place the Anacortes Arts Festival among the top in its industry and showcase Anacortes as a vibrant and welcoming community.
And because the Festival returns profits to the community through $30,000 in annual arts grants, and $10,000 in matching public arts funds, its impact extends well beyond three days in August. Thanks, Anacortes, for all your help!
