Ride for Youth a success
The third annual Mid-Day Rotary Club of Burlington, RAP150 — Ride for Youth was held July 26. This year, 73 riders came from all around the Northwest, including Seattle, Bellevue and Port Angeles. The ride included four routes — 150 miles, 100 miles, 50 miles and 25 miles.
The 150-mile route took riders from Burlington to South Lake Samish, then east to Artist Point atop Mount Baker and then back down Highway 9 to Burlington. A total of nine rest stops along the various routes supported the riders with refreshments and food for refueling. A nice carb-filled meal was waiting for the riders upon their return.
We would like to thank our local individuals and businesses that made donations and partnered with us for this ride: Fishers & Sons, Oasys, Minuteman Press, Skagit State Bank, Edward Jones, John White, Erik Dykstra, Les Schwab, Burlington Glass, Burlington Physical Therapy, NorthWest Plus Credit Union, Culligan, Carino’s, Business Bank of Skagit County, and Hilsinger & Co.

Thanks for the movies
On behalf of the board of directors of the Sedro-Woolley Chamber of Commerce and the Revitalization Committee, I want to thank everyone who took part in the fourth annual Sedro-Woolley Outdoor Movie events in July. We had an incredible series of live music and movies on clear beautiful nights.
Thank you to our title sponsor Comcast for the great partnership. We want to thank the following presenting sponsors: city of Sedro-Woolley, United General Hospital, KAPS 660, KBRC 1430, Masonic Lodge of Sedro-Woolley, and Epic Events and Entertainment.
Thank you to the following businesses and community organizations for their movie sponsorship for the 2008 season: Rotary Club of Sedro-Woolley; Pola Kelley, Allstate Insurance; Alfy’s Pizza and Pasta; Right Way Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning; Northwest Tinman; Puget Sound Energy; H&R Block; and All American Electric.
Thank you to Country Meadow Village, McDonald’s of Sedro-Woolley, Hometown Café, United General Hospital, H&R Block and Hal’s Drive-In for fun raffle prizes and give-aways. Thank you to board member Stacy Hicks and her son, Caine, for overall coordination of the event.
Thank you to our amazing ambassadors who volunteered for the series: Sandy Swartos, Laurie Lauritsen, Billie Stormont, Andrea Harig. Also volunteering were Eddie Hills, Keith Lauritsen and Nathan Salseina.

Thanks for help with library float
On behalf of the staff and board of the Mount Vernon City Library, I would like to thank Blade Chevrolet for the loan of a shiny new bright-red flatbed truck, which library staff and volunteers used to create our fun “Swing Open the Gate to Catch the Reading Bug” themed float in the Skagit County Fair Parade.
Blade Chevrolet has been a consistent supporter of libraries, reading and literacy in the community.
I would also like to thank the Friends of the Mount Vernon Library for helping design and build the float, and several library users for marching with the float in rather iffy weather. The city of Mount Vernon’s Fire Department was kind enough to loan us the use of one of Fire Station No. 1’s bays for overnight storage of the decorated flatbed truck.
Finally, I would like to thank Leslie Collings and everyone from the fairgrounds staff involved in putting together a well-organized parade, as well as Larry Otos and his city of Mount Vernon Parks Department staff for their parade support work. We had a great time!
