Thank you for making way for us during an emergency
My son was killed in a work-related accident on June 20. I drove with my four-way flashers on and my horn blasting from Mount Vernon to Big Lake to get my daughter-in-law and then on Highway 9 through Clear Lake to Sedro-Woolley’s United General Hospital.
I know I probably scared some of you that I passed, but I want to say thank you so much to everyone who pulled over and/or cleared the way for us to be able to get to the hospital so that we could say goodbye before they quit doing CPR. I will be forever grateful to all of you and so is my daughter-in-law.

Grant, donations to Lincoln Theatre appreciated
On behalf of the Lincoln Theatre members and the Lincoln Theatre Foundation Board of Directors, I wish to thank Skagit Community Foundation for a $10,000 matching grant that will help raise funds for a new digital projector and headset package for the Lincoln Theatre. We are honored to be chosen as a recipient.
We would also like to thank the generous Lincoln Theatre’s Cirque du Lincoln auction donors whose donations toward the projector’s purchase met more than half of the matching fund amount.
The projector and headset package will greatly improve the effectiveness, efficiency, safety and professionalism of the theater, thereby perpetuating audience growth and theater revenue for years to come. This growth will strengthen the main programs (Children’s Arts in Education, films and live performances) as well as specialty films, shorts and other onscreen presentations at the theater.
We are extremely grateful to Skagit Community Foundation and other community support that makes the Lincoln the people’s choice for theater in Skagit County.

Thank you for supporting Doggone Walkathon
On behalf of the Humane Society of Skagit Valley, I thank the volunteers, supporters and Walker’s Healthy Pet for donating to the Doggone Walkathon fundraiser on May 31.
We also want to thank Patti Brooks, Joy Thompson and their dancing dogs Belinda, Contessa, Molly and Clancy for providing great entertainment.
The Top Dog award went to Ron Dow, Ray Lucero and Gus for raising the most donations for the animals. The most talented dog contest was won by hoop-jumper Angel.
The money raised at this event is used to care for the homeless pets at the shelter. We look forward to a guaranteed day of fun next year.

Thanks to postal workers, community in food collection
Thank you to all the postal carriers, on behalf of Helping Hands Food Bank of Sedro-Woolley, for picking up more than 6,800 pounds of food on May 10.
A special thank you also goes to the students of North Cascade Job Corps and to Helping Hands volunteers for helping to sort all of the donations.
Most of all, we would like to thank the community of Sedro-Woolley for its generous giving. It is gratifying that in difficult economic times our community is so willing to give to others who are less fortunate.
Helping Hands Food Bank is a nonprofit agency that relies completely on contributions of time, goods or money from local individuals, businesses and service groups in order to successfully operate.
Without the continued generosity of the community, we would not be able to help those who are truly in need.

Thanks for student-tended flowers to aid WIC program
On behalf of the 500-plus babies that the Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program at Skagit Community Action will serve this year, I would like to say thank you for the $1,000 donation raised by the Madison Elementary School Flower Power Project in May.
The kindergarten through third-grade classrooms of Mrs. Clayberg, Mrs. Renne, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Minor and Mrs. Young worked for months tenderly growing flowers and making sale items with the purpose of “feeding babies.”
Thanks also to Faithland Growers, Jean’s Plant Farm, Skagit Farmer’s Supply, Summersun, Clyde Clay, Gloria Marin, Mrs. Morse, Mrs. Pickens, Ms. Sackett, Mrs. Stiles, Tim and Ricky Knue, and Becky Stinson for their donations and assistance.
With the price of gas and food rising, WIC participation is also increasing. Community funds assist us to serve more babies in our WIC program. We sincerely appreciate the support.
