Media reluctant to look at serious election issues
Re: Cranky comments from Robin Irving.
The point I was attempting to make, which was obviously lost on Robin Irving, is the fact that at this point in our history we were at this election facing one of the most profound choices we have had before us in generations.
The discourse on the major media has been lacking to say the least in informing us in a way to help make that choice. There’s little room for that amongst the Dancing with the Stars, etc.
I said, and maintain, that I doubt any sixth-grader has a very firm grasp on the events overtaking us, at least without the input of adults along the way, and that it would be a better service to us all to add to the discussion among adults rather then publish comments by grade school kids on this subject immediately prior to this last most important election.
It was not a put-down of the kids or the teacher(s) involved, a point I went out of my way to mention in my opinion. I commend getting kids involved in an interest in our politics, but I’m tired of the reluctance in our media in informing us.
I never mentioned any dissagreement with the students’ positions. I don’t know where that came from. Seems Robin Irving is reading a lot more into what I wrote.
I would have hoped that if we still had a “Fourth Estate” that still cared about their responsibility keeping the people informed, so that our democracy might function as it was intended, that in the lead-up to a presidential election we would be inundated with as much fact as possible rather than the fluff.
It was more a complaint on the timing than on the content. I hope all of these kids get involved more than the generation before them. We are gonna need it.

Family needs to know dog doing well in new home
Just about a year ago, I answered an ad for a neutered male 1/2 miniature black and tan dachshund. The family was moving from Oak Harbor to Anacortes and needed to find “Alexander A. Jenson” a new home.
Sadly, I forgot to get their name and new Anacortes address. I feel badly about this because their 11-year-old son had been Alex’s special caregiver. I want the family to know what a joy this little feller has been to me and the great year he has had, chasing balls, being in a parade, featured three times in “The Weekly Puppy,” etc., etc. He has lots of friends, including people and other dogs.
If the family hears of this, it would be great if they leave their address, phone, or e-mail at the Anacortes Senior Center so I can get it touch. I’m sure Alex would love to see his first family again.
