The Center for Creative Living, Anacortes Church of Religious Science, changed its name to the Center for Spiritual Living.

Beginning as an outreach ministry in 1987, the church was chartered in 1994 by Religious Science International and has been a presence in Anacortes, the Skagit Valley and the islands for more than 21 years.

The decision to change the name was based on a large-scale identity study conducted by the parent organization. The results showed the name Center for Spiritual Living was more welcoming and less confusing than the previous name.

“We found that many people who were attracted to our empowering and positive spiritual message were staying away because the name was confusing,” said the Rev. Ginny Kluth, the founding pastor and spiritual director for the Anacortes center. “We provide spiritual tools to transform personal lives and to make the world a better place.”

She said they continue to teach spiritual principles that inspire people to live lives with a personal relationship to God.

“We encourage community service and working to create harmony, peace and greater understanding as a way of life honoring all paths to God,” Kluth said.

Religious science, based on the philosophy called the science of mind, was developed in the United States in the early 20th century by Dr. Ernest Holmes and has grown into a global presence.

The Center for Spiritual Living provides a range of activities, including Sunday celebration services each week at 10:30 a.m. and ongoing Wednesday night classes on spiritual living, psychological principles and sacred literature and practices.

The Spiritual Living Bookstore, featuring a variety of books, music and other items, is open 1-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and after services Sundays. The Center for Spiritual Living, 1013 Fifth St., teaches a way of life based on common sense spirituality, providing spiritual support and healing to connect and empower the spirit, mind and body.
