SEDRO-WOOLLEY — Loggerodeo officials said Tuesday that one large 8-foot piece of cedar was stolen Sunday night from the downtown parking lot where the annual chain-saw carving contest takes place. Two other large pieces were also damaged.
Sedro-Woolley Police Chief Doug Wood said another theft was reported on June 19 when organizers noticed sawdust where a missing chunk had been.
He said one of the contest’s organizers said about 20 feet of cedar was missing. The Sunday theft of the 8-foot cedar butt leaves the festival short about 400 board feet, said Loggerodeo Vice President JB Bryson.
Loggerodeo President Jeanne McLennan said the contest had already been cutting it close with 10 large cedar chunks divided between the 13 carvers.
She said it would cost several hundred dollars to replace the missing cedar. With the contest starting Thursday, McLennan said it’s probably impossible to find more cedar for the contest.
