Heavy snow closed Highway 20, also called the North Cascades Highway, at 10 a.m. today.

Today’s closure is not for the season, according to a press release from the state Department of Transportation.

State transportation officials today were assessing the snowfall and potential avalanche danger to determine when they can re-open the highway.

The highway is closed from mile post 132 to milepost 170, or from Diablo Pass in the west to 14 miles west of Mazama in the east.
