BURLINGTON — A 59-year-old Burlington man has pleaded guilty in Skagit County Superior Court to seven charges related to holding a bar full of patrons hostage in April.
Michael R. Katarzy pulled out a pistol and shot it into the ceiling of the Cascade Brewery Restaurant April 26, when an employee told him he couldn’t smoke in the bar, according to court documents. Katarzy would not let people leave the bar. He talked about the hardship of being a Vietnam Veteran, witnesses said.
Police eventually tazed and arrested him after 30 minutes of negotiation.
Katarzy pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of second-degree assault and four counts of unlawful imprisonment.
He is being held on $500,000 bail, and will be sentenced at a later date.
