Man with pick-ax robs store

CONWAY — A man carrying a pick-ax type tool robbed a convenience store after midnight Monday, leaving with what sheriff’s deputies described as a small amount of money.

The man, who had a white T-shirt wrapped around his face, walked into the Conway Shell and demanded money from the clerk, said deputies with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office.

After he obtained an undisclosed amount of cash, the man fled north through the parking lot to a vehicle that then headed north on Interstate 5, deputies said. A passerby later told deputies that she saw a purple or maroon four-door car parked near the Shell station on Cedardale Road. The clerk called 911 about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to report the robbery.

The man is described as Caucasian, thin and in his late 20s or early 30s. He spoke with a raspy voice.  He wore a Carhartt jacket and a white T-shirt wrapped around his face.

Deputies ask anyone with information about this robbery to call 360-336-9450 or 911.
