LYNDEN — The Mount Vernon softball team was in the neighborhood, so it got in a couple of Northwest Conference games with the likes of Lynden Christian (a rain makeup) and Lynden on Monday.
The Bulldogs ended the twinbill with a pair of victories as they defeated Lynden Christian 6-1 and Lynden 11-0 in five innings.
Mount Vernon is 9-3 in conference and 12-7 overall.
“We hit the ball well,” said Mount Vernon coach Jennifer Frances.
Against Lynden Christian, it took the Bulldogs a while to get going.
About six innings to be exact.
Mount Vernon trailed 1-0 heading into the sixth, then led 3-1 by the end of it. The Bulldogs tacked on another three runs in the seventh.
Unfortunately for Lynden, the Bulldogs were warmed up for their second game. Mount Vernon plated three runs in the first inning, one each in the second and third, four in the fourth and two in the fifth.
The 11 runs came off 13 hits. Kiersten Anderson went 4-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI. Teammate Alicia Fine went 1-for-3 with and RBI while pitcher Devin Hiltz went 2-for-4 with four RBI.
“We woke up in the second game,” said Francis.

DEMING — The Seahawks rallied for the victory in the Northwest Conference game.
“We had to come from behind,” said Anacortes coach Tom Swapp. “The weather was a factor from the start.”
Anacortes trailed 5-2 heading into its half of the fifth inning. The score was 5-4 by the end of the fifth. Two more runs in the sixth secured the win.
Pitcher Megan Dunton garnered win No. 13 by going the distance. From the plate, Tara Bellusci was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sara Brennan and Maria Roney were each 2-for-4.
The Seahawks are 8-3 in conference and 14-4 overall.

Snohomish Panthers 0
SNOHOMISH — The Spartans continued their winning ways with the blanking of the Panthers in the Western Conference North Division game.
Stanwood is 14-0 in conference and 17-0 overall.
“The team played really well,” said Stanwood coach Cherlyn Schander, “considering it was such a windy day.”
Brittany Jeans threw seven scoreless innings while striking out 13 and walking four. From the plate, Jordan Nemo was 2-for-4 with a double.

OAK HARBOR — Tomahawk pitcher Riley Fritz dominated Wildcat hitters as she struck out 15, and Marysville-Pilchuck rolled to the WesCo North victory.
Oak Harbor is 2-12 in the division and 5-12 overall.

LAKE STEVENS — The Vikings squeaked by for the Western Conference North Division victory thanks to a sweep in doubles play.

BELLINGHAM — Burlington-Edison had three golfers among the top 10, but still finished second to Bellingham in the final Northwest Conference tournament of the season.
Bellingham had 263 Stableford points and Burlington-Edison 243 at Lake Padden Golf Course.
“We’ve played well, just not quite up to their level the last couple of weeks,” said Burlington-Edison coach Greg Knutzen.
Kirsten Dalgliesh finished fourth at 55 points, Rachel Erickson tied for seventh at 52 and Lauren Atkinson was 10th at 51.
Sedro-Woolley took fourth in the seven-team tournament behind Rindy McLennan’s 43 points.
