JUNEAU — The Anacortes boys’ basketball team suffered its first loss of the season late Monday night, falling to Juneau-Douglas 67-54 in the second round of the Capital City Classic.

Mackenzie Larkin scored 23 points to lead the Seahawks.

The Seahawks opened the tournament Sunday with a 63-56 victory over the Lathrop Malamutes. Luke Averill led the way with 22 points, with Larkin adding 12 points and Ryan Hayes 11.

Anacortes was outscored 19-6 in the third quarter to fall behind 49-45, but turned the tables and outscored Lathrop 18-7 the rest of the way.

The Seahawks face New Westminster, Vancouver, at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Luke Averill scored 11 against Juneau-Douglas, but was hampered with foul trouble much of the night. The Seahawks (3-1) shot just 17-of-32 from the free-throw line and struggled from the field as well, Seahawks coach Brett Senff said.

“On the defensive end, we didn’t look very strong,” Senff said. “I thought Mark Medalia and Jackson Kirkpatrick had a good game for us.”
