The National Weather Service is predicting up to 5 inches of snow in Skagit and Island counties Saturday evening through Sunday morning.
This next round of severe weather will mostly spare this part of Western Washington, after the storm on Wednesday and Thursday dumped one to two feet in Skagit County. Areas south of Tacoma could get significant amounts of freezing rain this weekend, and communities west of Puget Sound could see more than a foot of snow, the National Weather Service said.
The Weather Service is calling for 3 to 5 inches of snow in Island County and Fidalgo Island, and 1 or 2 inches in Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley, meteorologist Andy Haner said.
High winds are in the forecast for the eastern part of Skagit County.
Communities from Rockport east could see wind gusts up to 60 mph, Haner said. Winds will peak early Sunday morning, he said.
The state Department of Transportation will be out in full force this weekend to clear roads and respond to downed trees and power poles, spokesman Dave Chesson said.
DOT crews are working today to clear the roads of ice and snow in advance of the next storm.
Chesson warned people who drive on Highway 9 and Highway 20 to watch for compact snow, ice and slush during the Friday evening commute.
