The top four singles players and top two doubles squads return this year for the Mount Vernon girls’ tennis team.
Mckenzie Brookings, Hannah Kinsolving, Jill Walker and Hannah Allison will return to the court for the Bulldogs as No.1 through No. 4 singles competitors.
Mount Vernon coach Vince Hughes said Brookings and Kinsolving have been battling for the No. 1 spot during their practice.
“The challenge matches have been back and forth,” Hughes said.
Walker and Allison mostly paired up in doubles competition last year.
All four of the Mount Vernon girls’ singles players worked on their skills during the offseason, Hughes said.
“It’s like having another season under their belts,” Hughes said.
Maddie Stuckovich and Theresa Strachilla will likely make up the squad’s No. 1 doubles team, with Lauren Barnet and Meagan Straksky taking to the court as the No. 2 team.
Newcomers Dani Ellingsen and Stephanie Brisky could form the team’s No. 3 doubles duo, but Hughes said he hasn’t made a final decision yet.
“We’re looking forward to a great season,” he said. “Everybody has played on varsity before and we have tons of experience. All the girls are really hard workers and they’re eager to get their first matches in.”
