MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man has died of injuries suffered early Saturday morning when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Memorial Highway.
The victim, Duane R. Lyon, 51, was discovered around 8:45 a.m. Saturday morning lying on the highway near Avon Allen Road. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died, State Patrol troopers said.
Federal regulations prohibited the hospital from releasing information on the time and day of death. The King County Medical Examiner’s policy is to not release time of death until after the autopsy is completed.
Troopers said that Lyon, who lived near where he was found, was probably walking along the highway when a vehicle struck him. Based on the evidence at the scene of the crash, troopers said it is hard to determine whether Lyon was walking east or west.
It’s likely the crash happened at least an hour, or longer, before he was found, troopers said. The State Patrol asks that anyone with information on the accident to call Detective Charles Sletten at 360-757-1175.
