Meal prices could be on their way up in Mount Vernon schools, following a trend set forth in other local districts.
The Mount Vernon School District is recommending that the School Board increase food prices at tonight’s meeting
Food Services Department officials said lunch prices would increase by 50 cents to $2.50 for kindergarten through sixth grade, and to $2.75 for seventh through eighth grade.
Breakfast would see a 25 cent increase — from $1.25 to $1.50 — for seventh through 12th graders, officials said, but would continue to be free for kindergartners through sixth-graders.
Reduced prices would be 30 cents for breakfast and 40 cents for lunch.
Both the Burlington-Edison and Sedro-Woolley School Boards have approved similar increases for their districts within the past couple of months.
The Mount Vernon School Board meeting will take place Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in the high school library.
