Anacortes residents will get the chance to support half a dozen local nonprofits at one event this winter — All About Anacortes.
The dinner and auction will raise funds for the Anacortes Family Center, Youth Dynamics, the Anacortes Boys and Girls Club, the Salvation Army, the Christ the King Community Church care fund and Rehema Ministries.
“It goes to some great causes and there will be some real needs this year,” said Bob Hyde, one of the auction advisory board members.
The event started as a Christ the Kind fundraiser for its care fund.
“It just started to grow,” he said.
Organizers saw other needs in town and decided to put together a mega auction rather than have each group raising funds on its own.
The event, at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Port of Anacortes warehouse, will include a dinner, live and silent auctions and entertainment. Seats will cost $50. Donations will also be accepted.
If all goes well, it will be a yearly event.
“The goal will be to have the event the first year, obviously raise some money, then have it build a little stronger every year,” Hyde said.
Proceeds from the auction will provide support for food, shelter, medications and temporary assistance for those in immediate crisis.
Each of the six organizations will have time to explain what they do.
• Anacortes Family Center is a program to provide emergency shelter for women, children and families in Anacortes.
• Youth Dynamics reaches today’s youth through dynamic relationships and challenging experiences to help prepare them to successfully face the challenges of life.
• The Anacortes Boys and Girls Club is a program that encourages young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
• The Salvation Army meets human needs without discrimination in order to show the love of God and share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
• Christ the King Community Church care fund exists to help those in need rebuild their lives and get through short-term family and personal crises.
• Rehema Ministries is a locally based nonprofit whose mission is to build orphanages, children’s homes and water filtration systems in Kenya, Africa.
Other auction advisory board members are Mayor Dean Maxwell, Anacortes Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mitch Everton and Christ the King pastor Cliff Tadema.
