One Concrete man was killed and another seriously injured after the pickup truck they were in crashed Tuesday night on Concrete-Sauk Valley Road, striking a tree and then spinning over a 20-foot embankment.

Both men were ejected from the vehicle, a 1984 Toyota pickup. The State Patrol closed the road one mile east of the Dalles Bridge, near Haystack Lane, for about four hours early today.

Larry Maloon, 64, was killed in the crash. State troopers said that he and Gary Mills, who was injured, were out Tuesday night celebrating Maloon’s birthday.

Mills, 56, was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was in critical condition this afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Troopers said that the accident occurred a number of hours before it was reported at 7:30 a.m. today.

As of early this afternoon, the State Patrol had not determined who was driving at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
