Outdoor burning ban takes effect Thursday

An outdoor burning ban will take effect throughout unincorporated Skagit County at 8 a.m. Thursday, the county Fire Marshall’s Office announced today.

The ban has been called due to the high fire danger arising from hot and dry weather conditions and will remain in effect until further notice. The Fire Marshall advises those living within the boundaries of any city or town to check with their local fire department for current information on outdoor burning.

During the burn restriction no burning is allowed with the exception of barbequing with briquettes and propane only; and approved camp fire pits in campgrounds.

All outdoor burning permits for the unincorporated areas of Skagit County are now suspended, the Fire Marshall said. It is never legal to burn trash or garbage.

This decision has been made in cooperation with the Skagit County commissioners, the state Department of Natural Resources, local fire districts and the Northwest Clean Air Agency.

You may obtain updated County burn restriction information by calling the Skagit County Fire Warden at (360) 428-3293.
