The young Seahawk track and field teams continued to improve their individual performances in a tri-meet with Ferndale and Nooksack Valley on April 16 and at the Westling Invititational, an annual massive affair held at South Whidbey High on April 19.
At Nooksack Valley, Anacortes outscored the boys host team 110-32, but were edged by Ferndale 74-71. The girls similarly won over the Pioneers 91.5 to 53.5, but lost to Ferndale 79-71.
“We had 49 personal records,” said Anacortes co-head coach Case deVries. “At this point in the season athletes are starting to peak. For us to hit that number shows how committed our team is. The kids are committed to competing against themselves, and as a byproduct, successes as a team are coming more often than not.”
The Seahawks host their only home meet of the season when Bellingham and Lynden visit on Wednesday, April 23. Volunteers are urged to call the athletic department office at 293-1237 if they’d like to assist in the meet.
