Artistic stocking stuffers, new oils by Diane Ainsworth and a change-of-pace historical show are among the surprises awaiting visitors to Anacortes art galleries this month.
Several of the shows open during the Gallery Walk, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Christmas shoppers will want to note the opening of Insights Gallery’s popular annual “Petite Pieces” show, which offers a wide selection of works on a smaller scale by outstanding artists such as Alfred Currier, Anne Schreivogl, LeAnn Adams and Michael Moe. These gems are as beautiful as the artists’ bigger works, but the scale makes them more affordable.
The Scott Milo Gallery presents a great collection of new work by Diane Ainsworth of Port Townsend. It has been a year since the gallery has had so many of the artist’s new landscapes and florals in oil. Also showing will be pastels by Sandy Byers, oils and acrylics by Don de Llamas, color photographs by Randy Dana and watercolors by Joanne Shellan. A reception with the artists takes place during the Gallery Walk.
The Depot Arts Center Gallery switches tracks this month to present a historical show, “Celebrating Community and the Arts.” The exhibit opening during the Gallery Walk features music by the Backyard Band.
Get a glimpse of what once was a functioning Great Northern Railway station and telegraph office through photographs and catch the vision of Depot Arts Center’s restoration projects, 2009 art exhibits and musical events scheduled for the freight room. The show coincides with the Depot’s annual membership drive.
