A shoreline permit to extend the city-owned boat ramp next to Fidalgo Marina was approved by the Anacortes Planning Commission at its Sept. 10 meeting.
The project entails extending the ramp just south of the 30th Street and W Avenue intersection 13 feet in length and 24 feet in width using precast concrete panels.
The upgrade will allow use of the ramp at lower tides, repair a scour hole that has developed at the end of it and prevent future scouring. It will also keep the front wheels of launch vehicles from dropping off the ramp.
The original ramp is approximately 240 feet long by 40 feet wide with a concrete plank extension of about 24 feet by 24 feet that was installed in 2004.
The ramp is in the industrial use zone and used mainly by businesses, such as Northern Marine and North Harbor Diesel, Assistant Planning Director Don Measamer told the commission. It is not currently open to the public.
The extension was expected to be done within six months and take about two days to complete, according to city staff.
