BURLINGTON — The Burlington Police Department has impounded a blue 2002 Ford Explorer that is being investigated in relation to a June 13 shooting death, according to court documents obtained Friday.
The Explorer is thought to be owned by Luis Alberto Ugalde, according to documents. A warrant has been issued for Ugalde’s arrest.
Burlington police investigators have served several search warrants in relation to the shooting death of Walter Chacon-Villanueva.
Police have also seized a cell phone used by a passenger in the victim’s car at the time.
Chacon-Villanueva, 34, was driving a maroon Toyota 4Runner along the 700 block of South Alder Street just after midnight on June 13 when a shotgun blast fired from a dark SUV smashed through the driver’s side window of his vehicle and hit him in the head, police said.
He died a few hours later at Skagit Valley Hospital.
A fight at El Gitano restaurant earlier in the night involving Chacon-Villanueva and Ugalde, as well as others, is thought to be associated with the shooting, according to court documents.
Burlington police ask that anyone with information on Ugalde’s whereabouts call 911 or 360-428-3131.
