Police investigate apparent drive-by shooting

MOUNT VERNON — A 15-year-old boy told investigators that he was the target of several shots fired early Saturday morning in what appears
to be a drive-by shooting, said police today.

An officer on patrol just before 1 a.m. Saturday reported the sound of gunshots in the area of South 27th Street and Highland Avenue, said Mount Vernon police Detective Sgt. Mark Shipman.

No one was hurt, and there was no property damage, police said.

Officers talked to the teen, but they hadn’t determined the motivation for the shooting as of today, Shipman said.

A vehicle was seen leaving the area, but officers declined to release a description.

Police continued to investigate today.

Officers are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 360-336-6271 or 911.
