LA CONNER — Brandon Willey scored 16 points, D.J. Carr scored 11 and the La Conner boys’ basketball team improved to 1-1 in the Northwest 2B/1A League and 4-5 overall Tuesday with a 41-26 victory over Mount Vernon Christian.

The Braves bounced back well from the loss of Jeremy VanderLei to foul trouble, La Conner coach Scott Novak said.

“D.J. Carr and Tanner Wilson came in and played solid,” he said.

Carr added nine rebounds for La Conner. Cory Kuipers led Mount Vernon Christian with 11.

MOUNT VERNON — Daniel Barnet had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to the victory in the Northwest Conference opener.

The Bulldogs (4-3 overall) trailed early, but took a five-point lead at the half, then outscored the Pioneers 21-7 in the third quarter.

“We got off to a slow start, but kind of picked it up at the end of the second quarter,” Swanson said. “We played really well in the third and early fourth. It was defensive intensity. Once we figured that out, we got some easy buckets.”

Meridian Trojans 68
Sedro-Woolley Cubs 37

BELLINGHAM — Justin Leber scored 11 points and Niko Redlich added 10 in the non-league loss. The Cubs fell to 3-3.

“We didn’t take care of the basketball, and defensively we didn’t rotate fast enough,” Cubs coach Paul Bianchini said.

Granite Falls Tigers 47
Concrete Lions 44

CONCRETE — The Lions took a five-point lead into the fourth quarter, but fell to 1-7 overall.

Concrete made just 12-of-28 from the free-throw line.

“Once again, we’re right there, just trying to get over the top,” Lions coach Chad Dinkins said. “As long as we keep up with our intensity once we get into league play, we’ll be fine.”

Daniel Schoolland scored 14 and Chris Smith 12 for the Lions.

Arlington Eagles 60
Oak Harbor Wildcats 35

ARLINGTON — Michael Washington Jr. scored 12 points to lead Oak Harbor in the Western Conference North Division loss.

The Wildcats are 0-3 in division and 1-6 overall.

Marysville-Pilchuck 56
Stanwood Spartans 42

MARYSVILLE — Eric Chabot led the Spartans with 12 points in the Western Conference North Division game. Stanwood is 2-2 in division and 4-4 overall.
