Shorecrest’s Jens Bracht hits a shot Friday at Skagit Golf & Country Club.

BURLINGTON — It was a record-setting day at the Bill Egbers Memorial Golf Tournament.

Shorecrest’s Jens Bracht tied the tournament record for the best round with a first-round 66. Kamiak’s Dylan Goodwin then broke that record with a second-round 65 on his way to third place. And two area golfers landed in the top 11 Friday during the 27th annual event at Skagit Golf & Country Club.

Kamiak won the team title with a score of 512, edging Snohomish’s 514.

Bracht followed his 66 on the par-71 course with a 72 on his way to the victory in one of the state’s top tournaments. The event was founded as a memorial to former Mount Vernon standout Bill Egbers, who died in a car accident in 1981.

It wasn’t the only good finish for Bacht, who finished seventh two years ago.

He was glad to get the win at one of his favorite tournaments.

“This is one of the best tournaments of the year. I love all the people, and I love how the locals come out and cheer people on. There are always galleries.”

Bacht’s first round tied the tournament record for the best round, which had been achieved twice before — by Cascade’s Steve Peterson in 2003 and by Clarkston’s Joel Dahmen in 2005.

Squalicum’s Matt Rawitzer finished second with a two-round total of 140, and Goodwin’s scorching 65 led him to a third-place finish (140).

Oak Harbor’s Phil Reedy followed a first-round 72 with a second-round 69 to land in fourth.

Reedy, who was 12th last year, also said he looks forward to the Egbers each year.

“The atmosphere is awesome. It’s serious. It’s a big deal,” he said.

Reedy said his accuracy helped him on Friday, as he hit 30 of 36 greens in regulation.

“My putting was bad, or I would have won it,” he said.

A pair of Snohomish teammates finished fifth and sixth, with Mike Jaeger finishing with a 144 and Dylan Stensland finishing with a 145.

Mount Vernon’s Brian O’Laughlin turned in a consistent performance on his way to an 11th place finish, shooting 75 in the first round and 72 in the second.

Burlington-Edison coach Charlie Herzberg noted a pair of solid performances by the two Tigers who made the second round. Shane Stoupa made the final group with a first-round 70, and freshman Sam Johnson added a first-round 75.

“Stoupa has been on the comeback trail lately,” Herzberg said, adding that he did well considering the especially tough competition at Egbers. “Everyone is aiming at this one.”

Of Johnson’s first round he said: “That’s a pretty good round from a freshman.”

Peninsula (527), Lynden (541) and Charles Wright (551) rounded out the top five teams.
