SEDRO-WOOLLEY — The Sedro-Woolley football team found the most effective way to contain Anacortes quarterback Chris Stoneham — make him spend most of the game on defense.
The Cubs controlled the ball, and the Northwest Conference game, Friday night and bulldozed their way to a 33-7 victory.
Sedro-Woolley (0-0, 2-1, 3-1) had the ball for more than 26 minutes over the first three quarters.
Anacortes (0-2, 0-4, 0-4) had the ball for fewer than 10 mintues and didn’t pick up a first down until the final seconds of the first half.
“We had really wanted to control the clock, but then we came out and turned the ball over on the first play of the game,” Seahawks coach Bill Evans said. “It was a frustrating night.”
Sedro-Woolley ran 66 offensive plays to 37 for the Seahawks.
“That’s the style we try to play offensively,” Cubs coach Bryan Alexander said. “We were able to eat clock. The guys up front played well, so the run game was there.”
