The Burlington-Edison boys’ swim team saw a familiar face last week when the Archbishop Murphy Wildcats came to Mount Vernon for a meet.
The Tigers saw Arden Hunter.
Hunter attended Archbishop Murphy last season, but because the Wildcats didn’t have a swim program, he and his brother Kris swam for the Tigers.
Kris has graduated, but Arden now swims for the Wildcats.
Arden Hunter, who competed with the Tigers’ 400 freestyle relay team at the state meet last season, had a good day against his old team, winning the 200 freestyle (2:02.88) and 100 backstroke (1:03.18).
He also competed with the Wildcats’ winning 400 freestyle relay team, which won with a 3:56.57.
Not exactly masters of disguise
A pair of Arlington fans had a little fun with the Stanwood official selling tickets before the Stanwood girls’ basketball game against the Eagles on Jan. 2.
“We’re Stanwood fans,” one of the two fans said while they presented themselves to the ticket-seller.
The ticket-seller skeptically eyed the two fans, who, rather than wearing the red-and-white colors of Stanwood, were clad in white Arlington jerseys, blue-and-gold socks and oversized blue-and-gold wigs.
“Nice try,” she said.
Koetje makes Sports Illustrated
Stanwood tennis player Kyle Koetje has earned national attention for his play with an appearance in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd section.
He was in the Dec. 29 edition.
Koetje was 16-0 this season, was the MVP of the Western Conference North Division and qualified for the state tournament.
His photo and a brief description of his accomplishments appear with those of five other athletes.
