Junkyard Jane brings a funky Creole rockabilly sensibility to the Rockfish Grill on Saturday.

Junkyard Jane hauls its raucous, rootsy blend of Creole “swampabilly” into the Rockfish Grill for a show at 9 p.m. Saturday.

True originals, band lore claims Junkyard Jane “arose by night from the tide flats of Tacoma” in a brew of blues, swamp gas, rockabilly, old engine parts, country, folk and funk. Junkyard Jane’s 1997 debut release “Washboard Highway,” deemed one of the top 10 Northwest recordings by KPLU radio, has been followed by such evocatively named releases as “Rooster Hooch,” “Ductape & Sagebrush,” “Swampabilly Snake Oil Freakshow” and “Milkin’ the Frog.”

When she’s not enticing listeners with her sultry vocal styling and acoustic guitar picking, Leanne Trevalyan has fun with washboard scratchin’, slide whistle wailin’ and occasional kazoo solos. Billy Stoops, a BB Award winner for entertainer of the year and best male vocalist, delights and amuses audiences with his soulful voice, onstage antics, distinctive electric and acoustic guitar style and groove-oriented song writing.

Alex Featherstone provides funk/rock sensibility and melodic bass lines on electric, acoustic and fretless basses. Tom Sunderland, whose world beat rhythms also can be heard on TV soundtracks, pounds down the groove.

Junkyard Jane beat out thousands of bands to become one of eight groups to make the final round at the International Band Challenge in Memphis, Tenn. A stack of awards over the years includes the prestigious Washington BB Award for best band.
