Sedro-Woolley filled its coaching void last week with a familiar face within its program.
Former Cubs assistant coach Bryan Alexander was named the team’s new head football coach.
Alexander, who has taught at Sedro-Woolley for the past 10 years, has been both an offensive and defensive coordinator for the team in the past.
“It’s always been a goal of mine to be a head football coach,” Alexander said. “This was a great opportunity.”
Alexander is a social studies teacher at the high school and played football at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. He was also the Cubs’ co-coach in 2004 with Dan Teeter.
Sedro-Woolley athletic director Todd Torgeson said in a release that Alexander has a good understanding of the game of football and has developed a strong rapport with students, staff and the community.
The Cubs are looking to rebound after a 1-8 record in Northwest Conference play last year (1-2 in Class 3A play).
“We’re going to really work on making our players accountable in the classroom and in the community,” Alexander said. “The biggest expectation is for kids to be committed in every aspect of what we do.”
Alexander takes over for former head coach Doug Preston, who resigned after last season citing family reasons.
