Golfers from Anacortes and surrounding areas enjoyed a day of great golfing, great weather, great food and great fun at the Anacortes Sister Cities Association Doyle Geer Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 28.
Players on the winning team were Mike Matheson, Bill Halverson, Rod Hendricks and Ross Metcalf. In second place were Ian Munce, Jordan Freeman, Matt Knorr and Matt Birkle. And in third place were Kohl Nibarger, Ryan Nibarger, Corey Nibarger and Jim Stinnett.
Contest winners were Peter Roney and Crystal McDaniels, closest to the pin; Jim Stinnett and Crystal McDaniels, longest drive; and James Kurtz, longest drive in bare feet.
The Sister Cities Association was able to raise funds to provide a financial boost to many of its student exchanges and various projects.
The organization is committed to making international cultural and educational opportunities available to students and adults in exchanges with Lomonosov, Russia; Kisakata, Japan; Sidney, British Columbia, Canada; and Vela Luka, Croatia.
Twelve Anacortes Middle School students and four chaperones are leaving for a trip to Kisakata, Japan, in late July and four students and their chaperones from Lomonosov, Russia, will arrive July 30.
