Skagit County unemployment holds steady

The number of unemployed workers in Skagit County stayed virtually the same in October as in September, according to statistics released today by the Employment Security Department.

About 5,400 people in the county were unemployed in October, which is 40 more than had been out of work in September.

The county unemployment rate in October was 9 percent, the same as the revised figure for September.

Industries that provide private services tallied the largest job losses last month, at 600 positions. Leisure and hospitality industries lost 500 jobs last month.

Government added 500 positions last month at both the state and local levels.

The state unemployment rate was 9.3 percent in October, up slightly from the revised rate of 9.1 percent for September.

National unemployment jumped to 10.2 percent last month.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of misery as a result of the economic climate.  However, there are states enjoying a healthier economy and unemployment…
