GUEMES ISLAND — A state Health Department official was on Guemes Island Monday, investigating the source of E. coli contamination discovered last week in the water supply of the Holiday Hideaway Water Association.

No obvious source was found, a Health Department spokeswoman said late Monday. Most of the island residents served by that water association — 133 out of 150 — remain under an advisory issued Friday to boil their drinking water or use bottled water.

The homes affected are on the southeast part of the island, including full-time and part-time residences, said Carolyn Cox, spokeswoman for the department’s Office of
Drinking Water. The Holiday Hideaway Water Association is one of several small water utilities on the island.

Water customers affected by the advisory may call 360-333-0107 for more information.
