By the time lowland lakes trout fishing season opens Saturday, April 25 — or soon after — Campbell Lake will be stocked with 805 triploid trout weighing an average of 1.5 pounds each and Pass Lake will have 162 of the sterile rainbow trout.
In all, more than 35,000 trout will be stocked in 94 state lakes in April — as close to the April 25 season opener as possible — by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. In May, 29 lakes will receive additional fish.
The lowland lakes fishing season opener is a whopper.
“It’s our biggest fishing season opener because it traditionally draws more than 300,000 anglers of all ages,” said WDFW Director Phil Anderson.
A Washington freshwater fishing license, valid April 1 through March 31, is $21.90 for resident adults 16 to 69.
An annual fishing license for 15-year-olds and persons with disabilities is $8.21, and for seniors 70 and older it is $5.48. Children 14 and younger do not need a fishing license.
All licenses can be purchased at http://www.fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov, by calling (866) 246-9453 or at hundreds of license dealers across the state listed at http://www.wdfw.wa.gov/lic/vendors/vendors.htm.
Copies of WDFW’s annual Fishing In Washington sportfishing rules pamphlet are available from license dealers, WDFW offices and at http://www.wdfw.wa.gov/fish/regs/fishregs.htm.
The current rules are in effect through April 30, but change for May 1 through April 30, 2010.
