Students earn Kiwanis recognition

The following students recently received student achievement awards from the Burlington Kiwanis Club.

Brieanna Lopez is a student at Lucille Umbarger Elementary.

She is the daughter of Marty and Kay Lopez.

In school, she participates in basketball and track and her favorite classes are social studies, science and P.E.

Brieanna loves playing fastpitch — she is currently on the 16-U Triple Threat fastpitch team playing pitcher and first base. She attends Burlington Lutheran Church. Brieanna also enjoys camping, listening to music and hanging out with her friends. She is currently involved with Burlington-Edison Little League, helping with the major girls fastpitch division pitchers.

Brieanna’s goals once she graduates from high school are to attend a four-year university, become a teacher and play fastpitch softball.

Storm Jackson is an eighth-grader at West View Elementary.

Storm is the daughter of Crystal and Shawn Jackson.

She loves to draw, is in campus choir at B-EHS, loves math and spelling. Storm enjoys helping the teachers in their classrooms with the younger children, Storm also volunteers after school in the library, she played volleyball and enjoys reading very much (especially Stephen King). She also won her school spelling bee and went to district for that. For winning the spelling bee she got to be principal for the day. Storm is also the newsletter editor at her school. She also volunteered for Cinco de Mayo and was one of their Quinceanera dancers.

Nathan Esskew is a student at Lucille Umbarger Elementary.

Nathan is the son of Terry and Kristin Esskew.

He is involved in soccer, debate, reading, tennis, swimming and weight lifting.
