A final fundraiser is planned this week for a group of high school girls and chaperones from Anacortes who plan to travel to Mexico to help at an orphanage.

The fundraiser begins with a catered dinner from Gepetto’s Friday, July 25 in the upstairs ballroom at Eagles Hall, 901 Seventh St. Cost is $20 for lasagna, salad and garlic bread. Musician Jason Tocarcheck will provide entertainment during the meal. A dessert auction will follow featuring homemade desserts.

At 7:30 p.m. the doors open for an evening of entertainment by John Van Deusen of Lonely Forest and Tara Ward of Late Tuesday. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted. There will also be silent auction items to bid on. Artist Scott Erickson will paint a piece during the show, which will be auctioned off at the end of the evening.

The students will travel to Tijuana, Mexico Aug. 9-17 to visit the City of Angels Orphanage and Ministerio Nueva Generation. The orphanage cares for more than 100 children, ranging in age from infants to 18-year-olds. Visit http://www.tjkids.org. They plan to help by preparing meals, helping with chores and doing light construction. The students also plan to throw a fiesta-style birthday party for the kids. They will interact with the kids through sports, music and games.

The group has a fundraising goal of $5,500. All the money raised at the July 25 event will go directly to the orphans.
For tickets to the dinner or more information call John Hiles at (360) 420-4729.
