As summer seems to be working its way to a soggy conclusion, some Anacortes galleries are offering a desperately needed infusion of color and light with the opening of several new shows during the First Friday Gallery Walk, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5.

Anne Schreivogl’s vivid and playful paintings headline the “Last Splash of Summer” show at Insights Gallery. Her new summery work includes oils from her recent trip to Greece and “Summer Folly” a painting featured on Lantz Cellars’ 2007 Sauvignon Blanc as part of the Woodinville winery’s new artist series labels. “Summer Folly,” a colorful explosion of seasonal flowers, is the next best thing to a hot late summer afternoon.

Rounding out the Insights show will be vibrant floral oils by Larisa Aukon and still life paintings and landscape oils by Suzanne Anderson.

Other shows may help prepare viewers to embrace the subtler joys of fall — the nuanced oil still lifes of Sandra Westford at the Scott Milo Gallery, the evocative plein air landscapes of T.H. Pickett at Anne Martin McCool Gallery and the varied wood, metal, fiber, clay and painted work of Dewey Beach Artists, who present their “Fall Collection” at the Depot Arts Center.

Westford’s Milo show opens with a reception during the Gallery Walk. A Seattle artist, she has previously shown subtle still life pastels and ventures into oils for this show. Also showing at Milo will be large format photographs by Dick Garvey, oils by Joseph Lesser and Keith Sorenson and acrylics by Richard Nash.

Pickett has pursued sculpture, silverwork, painting and encaustic, and he began painting plein air soon after he moved to the Skagit valley in 1976. Most of his works are landscapes with a Pacific Northwest vision, although more recent studio works include portraits and studies of interactions and abstractions of form and color.

• Bowman Gallery, 801 Fifth St., features photographs by Marius Hibbard.
