The 20th Annual James M. Ford Golf Classic recently raised more than $60,000, a record for the tournament that supports Skagit Valley College scholarships and program enhancements.

A total of 204 golfers participated in the May 9 fundraiser which was held at Avalon Golf Links in Burlington.

Shell Puget Sound Refinery was the fundraiser’s underwriter for the 16th consecutive year.

“We are grateful to Shell Puget Sound Refinery for their continued and generous support of the James M. Ford Golf Classic,” said Fay Shane, foundation director.

“Thanks to Shell Puget Sound Refinery, along with our benefactors, sponsors, volunteers and golfers, more students will have an opportunity to pursue their educational goals,” Shane said.

The mission of the SVC Foundation is to support and develop educational offerings for students of Skagit Valley College and the proceeds of this event are specifically designed to provide scholarships to older, returning students.

Registration continues for the foundation’s second golf fundraiser, the 16th Annual Whidbey Island Golf Classic. The tournament will take place Friday at the Whidbey Island Country Club in Oak Harbor.
