Pianist James Thompson will perform works by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Debussy, Grieg, Mompou, Poulenc and Scriabin — punctuated by witty commentary — at 4 p.m. Sunday at Anacortes High School’s Brodniak Hall.
“Jim’s love for the piano supersedes his love of the music he chooses to play. His fingers caress the keys and his body seems to embrace the piano itself in his arms. What we hear is the reflection of this deep relationship,” writes poet Holly Redell.
In his “Celebrating 50 Years” program, Thompson explores the essence of simplicity and art, as well as the search for one’s individual voice — the unique expression of spirit and truth that make a difference in each of our lives, said concert organizer Barbara King.
Questions from the audience and witty commentary grace this wonderful, “uniquely-Jim” performance, in which Thompson shares his “wisdom at 50” and his special relationship with the Anacortes community, King said.
The program, about two hours, is presented by the Anacortes Depot Arts Center with a generous grant from the Anacortes Arts Festival. Suggested donation is $15, with children 12 and under free. For more information visit the Depot Arts Center at 611 R Ave. or call 293-3663.
