Five of the Tiger girls’ top six golfers from last year will take to the course this season, with a return trip to state in mind.

Seniors Kendra Welling, Kaitlyn Conijn and Lexi Carter will join juniors Kirsten Dalgliesh and Rachel Erickson for Burlington-Edison, with the sixth varsity spot up in the air, coach Greg Knutzen said.

“Those five are going to carry us or sink us,” he said.

A number of younger golfers and returnees will fill out the Tigers’ remaining roster, including that No. 6 spot. That competition for playing time should spur girls of all ages to improve their golf games as the season progresses, the coach said.

Knutzen said he’s been impressed with the effort being put forth by all of his golfers, including his freshmen.

“We should be a veteran squad this year — almost everyone who’s going to play is coming back,” Knutzen said. “They should know what to expect. We’re in a really tough conference, but we’re going to be competitive.”

Other returnees for the Tigers include seniors Laura Eubanks, Priscilla Paulsen, Katie Reed, junior Nicole Young and sophomores Molly Dynes, Amelia Haigh, Elizabeth Olsen, Jenny Spink and Sydney Turner.

Three freshmen turned out for the team this year. One of whom — Lauren Atkinson — could fill the team’s last varsity spot, Knutzen said.
