Burlington-Edison’s Anna Swanson (left) and Lucy Capron put up a block Monday against Anacortes’ Faith Vandeway.

The Burlington-Edison volleyball team bought a little peace of mind Monday night heading into its final match of the regular season.

The Tigers, top-ranked among the state’s Class 2A teams, blew past Anacortes 25-12, 25-17, 25-18 to remain unbeaten.

The win clinches the Northwest Conference’s top seed to the Northwest 2A District Tournament, which keeps the Tigers on the opposite half of the bracket from a tough Archbishop Murphy squad.

“It takes the pressure off,” Tigers coach Tawnya Brewer said. “The worst we can do is tie for the conference title.

“The girls are playing really well. They’re playing cool, confident and calm.”

All that’s left for the Tigers to do in the regular season is win the conference title outright, which they can do Wednesday when they face once-beaten Lynden Christian.
